Will the HFAA be holding its summer Annual Workshop in person in 2023?

As of July 2022 the HFAA is currently planning on holding its summer 2023 Hardanger Fiddle Music and Dance Workshop in person July 20-23 at Folklore Village, near Dodgeville, Wisconsin: https://folklorevillage.org/

What are the COVID-19 policies and mitigation measures that will be in force at your Annual Workshop?

When does the workshop begin and end?

Our workshop normally begins at 1 pm on Thursday and ends with lunch at 12 noon on Sunday. Everyone must be completely out of Folklore Village by 2 pm on Sunday.

How do I register?

The registration form can be downloaded from our website after it is posted, normally in April.

What is the registration deadline?

For 2022 the registration deadline was June 27 to avoid a late fee; July 9 (postmarked) was the final registration deadline (individual exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis).

Is it possible to attend part time?

We offer six different options for part-time attendance; see the registration form in Spring 2023 for more details.

What does it cost to attend?

In 2022 the fee (includes tuition and meals; housing not included) for full-time adult attendance was $370 and for full-time teen attendance was $190; the fees for 2023 may differ.

Can I bring a companion who won't be attending classes but will join me for meals?

Yes. Adult companions who do not participate in classes may attend for the same fee as teen attendance.

Can I bring my children to the workshop?

Children who are mature enough to participate in the dance or fiddle classes are very welcome. For younger children we recommend that you find an adult to be responsible for their care during the day; we do not provide activities for children.

What is your cancellation policy?

For 2022 cancellations before June 30 received a full refund minus a $10 handling fee; for cancellations between June 30 and July 12 the refund was the greater of $20 or 70% of the registration fee. After July 12, the refund was 20% of the registration fee and the HFAA provided confirmation of a tax-deductible donation to the HFAA for the non-refunded amount. If cancelling due to showing covid symptoms or a positive covid test, the registrant received a 100% refund minus a $10 handling fee, subject to certain conditions; contact workshopchair@hfaa.org for more information. We will refund all payments in the event that we are forced to cancel our workshop for any reason.

Can you help me find a ride to Folklore Village?

See our page Housing, Meals, Transportation on our website where you will find information on public transportation to Madison, WI, the nearest city. Also, our online Ride Sharing Board will be available to workshop registrants to help workshop attendees needing rides to match up with drivers and vice versa; information on how to access the Board will be sent to registrants via email.
